Bon Secours Congregation was founded in the year 1858 at Pondicherry and currently it has spread out its helping hand throughout the country and even to overseas countries such as Italy, France and Germany. The Congregation is one of the first unique Congregations in India. Evangelization has been the main apostolate of the congregation in addition to their concern for the poor. The sisters of the Congregation have involved themselves in Health Care, Social Service and Education targeting a complete transformation in the lives of the poor especially women. However, the Congregation as a whole believed that the greatest exclusive factor that can amazingly improve the status of the women through higher education. This kindles them to establish Institutions of Higher Education for Women in various places.

Bon Secours Arts and Science College for Women, Mannargudi, is a minority institution, one among the 5 outstanding colleges being run by the Bon Secours Congregation.
