Gender Champions Club
AIM:
To create awareness about the social changes as to bring a change in the social setting. The educational institutions played a vital role in moulding the young women to face the societal abuses against women. The broad aspect of a Gender Champion is to provide an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to understand the social and cultural constructions of gender that would shape the experiences of the women and men in the society there by to respect the rights of the women.
VISION
To preserve the dignity of the young women and to monitor the progress towards gender justice.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A GENDER CHAMPION
The responsibilities of the Gender Champion will include the following:
- To engage a variety of stakeholders from the school, college, civil society organizations, women’s groups and media in gender awareness activities.
- To observe the classrooms to detect bias in the interactions
- To promote a Gender Champion Club in their educational institutions and to undertake various innovative activities, like creating a website or blog on gender equity and regularly writing an equity column on current issues.
- To Organize awareness programmes on various gender issues
- To Organize the college fest on the themes of gender equality and women’s empowerment
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
A Gender Champion should fulfil the following eligibility criteria –
- A gender Champions should be any student above 16 years of age. She/he must have secured minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in the annual examination/school leaving certificate.
- Should be endowed with an Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Should have a leading leadership quality
- Must possess an excellent understanding of the socio-cultural issues.
